mages of the City of London

Event Details

Venue and Date

This year's breakfast will be held at St. Helen's Bishopsgate on Wednesday, 10th November, from 7.30 am until 9.00 am. The cost will remain £12.50 per person.

The Breakfast

We are looking forward to another excellent breakfast this year. Although we know people come to pray, we also want to offer a quality breakfast to encourage fellowship and networking as we prepare to pray together. Last year the team at St. Helen's excelled in providing the breakfast for us.

Speaker

Our speaker for 2010 will be Ken Costa. Our guest speaker this year is Ken Costa. Ken was born and grew up in South Africa. It was at university in Johannesburg where he became President of the Students' Union. It was here he became active in the student protest movements against apartheid. He went on to study law and theology at the University of Cambridge.

Following university, he went to work for an investment bank in the City of London, where he has worked for over 30 years. After serving as Vice-Chairman of UBS Investment Bank, a global financial institution, where he advised international corporations, Mr Costa was named as the Chairman of Lazard International, joining the bank in October 2007.

Ken Costa is the Chairman of Alpha International, which promotes the Alpha course - an introduction to the Christian faith attended by over 2 million people in the UK and 10 million worldwide – and Church Warden of Holy Trinity Brompton. Ken is also the author of the book, God at Work, from which the God at Work 6 week discipleship course has been established.

From the book…

‘As an investment banker in the City of London, I have read the Financial Times and the Bible almost every day for the last 30 years. People often ask how I reconcile being a banker and a Christian. There is a widespread view that God and business simply don’t mix: the competitive, cut-throat demands of the marketplace are seen as the obvious enemy of Christian compassion and love. But I have found that the God who created and sustains the world is also the God of the workplace. If the Christian faith is not relevant in the workplace, it is not relevant at all . . .’

He and his wife, Fi, live in London. They have two sons and two daughters.
